Before the policy language, I want to be transparent about how artificial intelligence fits into my work.
I photograph wildlife in the field using digital cameras. I sort and edit those photographs in Adobe Photoshop. I build the baseline digital compositions for my Field Guide Proofs in Procreate, then move those compositions through additional digital tools for editing, texture, layout, and production. Some of those tools now include AI-assisted features.
So, yes, artificial intelligence exists somewhere within my creative workflow. That does not mean the finished work is “AI art.”
I spend months finding, photographing, observing, and researching Florida wildlife. I make the creative decisions. I build and refine the digital composition. Then I physically layer dozens of coats of paint and carve the finished artwork by hand.
The same is true of my writing and research. The Field Guide entries are my writing. I use research tools, editing tools, plagiarism-checking tools, and AI-assisted research platforms to help verify scientific accuracy, catch accidental similarities in phrasing, and challenge my own assumptions. Those tools assist the process; they do not replace it.
I do not hide the tools I use, and I do not believe pretending AI can simply be removed from modern creative technology is useful. I support thoughtful, transparent, and ethical use of artificial intelligence. I also believe the environmental and community costs of AI infrastructure deserve serious scrutiny and better solutions.
My position is intentionally nuanced: use the tools responsibly, understand their consequences, disclose meaningful uses, and keep human judgment and accountability at the center.
If you have questions about how AI is used in my work, email me. I am happy to talk about it.

Alice Absolutely uses a combination of traditional studio practice, digital tools, research, photography, and emerging creative technologies as part of the development process for the Florida Field Guide Project and related work.
Artificial intelligence may be used as a supporting tool during early-stage concept development, visual exploration, reference organization, writing assistance, layout testing, or other preliminary creative work.
AI-generated or AI-assisted material is not represented as a hand-created original artwork.
Original Alice Absolutely paint carvings are physically created by hand through a layered painting and carving process. Digital compositions used as Field Guide Proofs are developed, edited, refined, and directed as part of Alice Absolutely’s creative process before they are used as references for the carved works.
AI tools do not replace artistic authorship, final creative judgment, research, species review, or the hand-carved production process.
Where AI-assisted imagery, text, or other material plays a meaningful role in a finished public-facing work, Alice Absolutely may identify that use where appropriate.
Alice Absolutely does not authorize the use of its artwork, photographs, written content, Field Guide entries, designs, or other copyrighted material to train, fine-tune, develop, or commercialize artificial intelligence models without express written permission.
